The producer who owned the rights spent a decade trying to find somebody else interested in a remake until running across Russell who had made an impact with My Dog Skip (2000). Tuck Everlasting is a new adaptation of Natalie Babbitt's acclaimedĪccording to Jay Russell, the director of the current film, the novel's author Babbitt wasn't happy with the original film. The film opens theatrically nationwide on October 11th. Others in the cast include William Hurt, Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving, Ben Kingsley and narration by Elisabeth Shue. Signed to star was Alexis Bledel of TV's The Gilmore Girls as Winnie. They made some changes to give the film more ballast, such as increasing Winnie's age from 10 to 17 so that she would be more aware of the consequences of her actions. He accepted and brought in screenwriters James Hart ( Hook, Bram Stoker's Dracula) and Jeffrey Lieber ( Tangled).

However, the Tucks have a secret and are being pursued by a mysterious man in a yellow suit. She's rescued by a boy named Jesse Tuck and soon becomes fast friends with his entire family. The story is about Winnie, a young girl who, after a fight with her mother, wanders through the nearby woods and quickly becomes lost. (Though oddly enough Sonia Raimi also sports a credit in Samuel Beckett's Film.) For most of the cast the film turned out to be their only screen credit.

It was the first film for director Frederick King Keller who is busy in TV these days, with credits for Angel, 24, Roswell and Nash Bridges. The earlier version appeared in 1980 as a small independent film which despite much positive reaction never got quite the attention it deserved. In the early years of last century teenage Winnie Foster, Alexis Bledel, is itching to break away from the constraints of her strict establishment family, particularly her domineering mother played by Amy Irving. Tuck Everlasting is based on the award-winning children's novel by Natalie Babbitt.
